An Irish-inspired Writing Prompt for St. Patrick’s Day

These trees are beautiful, and there’s something about them that makes it easy to think of faeries and magical beings.

No, it’s not about green beer or skipping work to do shots. Although I guess that could end up part of it. This writing prompt for St. Patrick’s day is inspired by combining old celtic lore with the modern day holiday.

A St. Patrick’s Day Writing Prompt

Pick a Faerie & Modify It

Pick a type of fae and change it to make up your own version. You can use the old stories as a starting point. Then, give it your own twist. Decide how the court(s) works, what magic your fae can do, how they relate to nature and the modern world, etc. Maybe this picture of trees in Ireland will inspire you.

Add a St. Patrick Day Situation

Next, make up a character who is one of those fae and put him/her in a U.S. pub on St. Patrick’s Day. Is it just me, or does that sound like instant fodder for all kinds of conflict? 🙂 Happy St. Pat’s!
